New York Times Stock Downgraded to "Junk" Stasis

Karl Rove at work.

S&P slashes New York Times rating to junk.
NEW YORK, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's on Thursday slashed its ratings on the New York Times Co (NYT.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) into junk territory and cited concerns about the newspaper publisher's revenue outlook, after it posted a third-quarter loss.

Moody's Investors Service also said it may follow the move, adding the publisher faces risks in refinancing its debt.

The New York Times posted a quarterly loss from continuing operations on Thursday and said advertising revenue at its news media group dropped 16 percent for the quarter. For details, see [ID:nN23398087]

S&P said a likely U.S. recession will exacerbate declining advertising revenues and prolong the time until the declines will be made more manageable, possibly until 2010.

Until advertising declines are moderated the publisher will not be able to execute revenue strategies and cost cutting measures that are key to stabilizing its earnings, the rating agency added.

McCain Supporter Attacked by Obama-Supporting Armed Robber, Has the Letter "B" Carved in Her Face *Update***Update--Hoax

Is this what Obama meant by "get our there and get in their face,"? If this had been the other way around, the MSM and the leftonut blogs would be screeching about the "conservative culture of hate" and calling for the Fairness Doctrine. Well they do that anyway, but you know what I mean.

Woman Attacked At ATM, Assailant Carves Letter Into Her Face
.
Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.
(via LGF)

(Update)Possible hoax?
Pittsburgh law enforcement sources tell TMZ they have serious questions about the authenticity of the alleged victim who says she had her face cut by a politically-motivated attacker.

We're told there are several things about the alleged attack that don't add up. A Pittsburgh PD official says they are conducting a "thorough investigation" and have not determined if the alleged attack is real or a hoax. But we're told there is definitely a level of skepticism.
The first thing I thought when I saw the picture of the woman in question was "why is the 'B' backwards?"

Update. Yup, it was a hoax.

KC Star: "Socialist" is a Racist Code-Word for "Black"

The Falling Star does it again, and lives up to it's reputation as the most Liberal, left-wing paper in the Midwest.

Shame on McCain and Palin for using an old code word for black.
By Lewis Diuguid, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

The "socialist" label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has long and very ugly historical roots.

J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used the term liberally to describe African Americans who spent their lives fighting for equality.

Those freedom fighters included the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who led the Civil Rights Movement; W.E.B. Du Bois, who in 1909 helped found the NAACP which is still the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization; Paul Robeson, a famous singer, actor and political activist who in the 1930s became involved in national and international movements for better labor relations, peace and racial justice; and A. Philip Randolph, who founded and was the longtime head of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and a leading advocate for civil rights for African Americans.

McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for black. It set whites apart from those deemed unAmerican and those who could not be trusted during the communism scare.

Shame on McCain and Palin.
I cant wait to listen to Chris Stigall tomorrow morning to see what he has to say about this.

Deranged Moonbat Sues McCain/Palin Over Debunked "Kill Him" Smear

Oy vey, sometimes I am ashamed to admit I live here. The "kill him" smear has been debunked, yet she still filed a law suit over what a few McCain supported have said. I think Ms. Green needs to go to the Huffington Post, Daily Kos, or Obama's official website if she wants to see some real "hate speech." Might do her some good to pick up a copy of the Constitution as well.

This kind of frivolous lawsuit illustrates the need for a "loser pays" system.

KC Star: Lawsuit says supporter fears for Obama’s life.
In her lawsuit against Sen. John McCain, Gov. Sarah Palin and campaign manager Rick Davis, Mary Kay Green said she had been injured by their campaign tactics and suffered “terror of the heart, anxiety and grave fear” for Obama’s life.

Green said the GOP campaign had used hate speech to work its supporters into a frenzy, leading to death threats against Obama.
And as usual there is plenty of comic gold to be found in the comments section of the article. It's really the only redeeming thing about the Red Workers Daily KC Star.

BBC Admits Fear of Islamic Radicals

Well well, the BBC can't be called "Islamophobic" right? Because a phobia is an irrational fear. I thought all religions were equally violent and radical?

70% of English subjects call themselves Christian, and 3% Muslims, so why are Muslims coddled, appeased, and given special rights? What do English Muslims do that English Christians don't? I could tell you, but the Ministry of Truth would just sensor my comments.

Daily Mail: The BBC will tackle Islam differently to Christianity, admits its Director General.
BBC programme-makers tackle Islam differently from Christianity, its director general has admitted.

Mark Thompson was responding to criticism from comedian Ben Elton, who accused the BBC of being scared to make jokes about Islam.

Mr Thompson said: 'What Christian identity feels like to the broad population is a little bit different to people for whom their religion is also associated with an ethnic identity which has not been fully integrated.

'There's no reason why any religion should be immune from discussion, but I don't want to say that all religions are the same. To be a minority I think puts a slightly different outlook on it.'

Mr Thompson, who spoke at a lecture for think-tank Theos, said shows critical of Islam would be shown if they were of high quality.

Elton made his comments earlier this year in an interview with Christian magazine Third Way when he was asked if too much deference was shown to religious people.

'I think it all starts with people nodding whenever anybody says, 'As a person of faith ...',' he said.

'And I believe that part of it is due to the genuine fear that the authorities and the community have about provoking the radical elements of Islam," he said.

'There's no doubt about it, the BBC will let vicar gags pass but they would not let imam gags pass. They might pretend that it's, you know, something to do with their moral sensibilities, but it isn't. It's because they're scared. I know these people.'

Questions for a Socialist

Hypothetical:

My name is Joe, I have a modest background, and I didn’t finish collage.

In my early 20’s, I started work in a blue-collar, but decent-paying job to support my family. I had to work overtime nearly every week, and it hurt my marriage, but we had to make ends meet. I did this for years. But one day, I had an idea.

I had an Idea for a product and service that people might buy. Nobody was offering this where I lived, so I thought this may be an opportunity to start a business.

I had a few dollars saved, and took out a couple of loans to make my idea come to life.

We struggled at first, but over time, my product caught on, my business became successful, and I was able to pay back my loans, while supporting my family on the profits.

My business became so successful that I was pulling in over $500k per year in profits, had hired 3 employees, and was salting away a nice nest-egg in case my business faded.

Now my questions to the socialist are:

My business was built by my drive, my ingenuity, and my intelligence. So how can you justify taxing me to oblivion so that bums, welfare queens, illegal aliens, and shiftless dregs on society can profit from my successful business when they contribute nothing?

Why am I not entitled to keep the money I rightfully earned through my work and ingenuity?

More importantly: Why should I keep my business open in America when I can move it somewhere else with less taxes?

Why should I keep it open, when I can just close shop and live on the Government dole?

Tell me, Obama supporters, WHY should I keep my modestly successful business open, when Barack will take my profits and hand them out to bums?

Tell me, Barack supporters, how after The One raises my taxes, and forces me to provide heath-benefits to three employees which will cost me 10's of thousands of dollars, why I shouldn't close shop and move my family and business to a more tax-friendly country?

SCCA Runoffs at Heartland Park Topeka 10/11/08

I attended the SCCA event at Heartland Park today, as a VIP guest of Level 5 Racing.

(click pics for larger image)

I was worried that these pictures wouldn’t come out when I was shooting, but the lighting was perfect, and even my cheap camera was able to get some good shots.

Level 5 Racing has the most ornate "trailer" I have ever seen in my life.

From the top:

The dining area:

Cars on display:

The 55 Westfund car races in the Ferrari Challenge.

The bays:

The Team... Tucker and Zabinski:

This guy in the Viper spun-out and smacked the wall about 8 feet from me:

Tucker w/damage:

The Level 5 set-up drew quite a crowd:

I tried to chase this guy down, but he just smirked and took off:

A beautiful day in Kansas.

Is McCain Taking a Dive?

He won't hammer on Ayers or any of the other radicals that Obama fraternities with, he won't talk about Obama's work for the voter fraud organization ACORN, his VP pick was tactically brilliant but a strategic disaster... and it goes on. Now there is this little ditty that LGF posted:

Maybe the GOP is thinking about the bigger picture here and knows that Obama and a presumably Democrat majority House and Senate will inherit the worst financial mess in generations, a nuclear Iran, an aggressive Russia, and a whole mess of other problems, not the least of which is China.

I have to say that if I was McCain, I would take a powder too.

Hood 2 Hood-Kansas City

George Bush Mockingly Called "Comrade" By Latin America Socialists

There is plenty of blame to go around concerning the financial crisis and the subsequent socialization of the United States, but Bush has been at the helm for the last eight years, and he deserves this.

Kansas City Star: With bailout, socialists say Bush is now ‘a fellow traveler'
They don't call him President Bush in Venezuela anymore.

Now he's known as "Comrade."

With the Bush administration's Treasury Department resorting to government bailout after government bailout to keep the U.S. economy afloat, leftist governments and their political allies in Latin America are having a field day, gloating one day and taunting Bush the next for adopting the types of interventionist government policies that he's long condemned.

"We were just talking about that this morning on the floor," said Congressman Edwin Castro, who heads the leftist Sandinista congressional bloc in Nicaragua. "We think the Bush administration should follow the same policies that they and the International Monetary Fund have always told us to follow when we have economic problems - a structural adjustment that requires cutting government spending and reducing the role of government.

"One of our economists was telling us that Bush has just implemented communism for the rich," Castro said.

No one in Latin America has been making more hay of Bush's turnabout than Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, a self-proclaimed socialist who is the U.S.'s biggest headache in the region.

"If the Venezuelan government, for example, approves a law to protect consumers, they say, 'Take notice, Chavez is a tyrant!'" Chavez said in one of his recent weekly television shows.

"Or they say, 'Chavez is regulating prices. He is violating the laws of the marketplace.' How many times have they criticized me for nationalizing the phone company? They say, 'The state shouldn't get involved in that.' But now they don't criticize Bush for having nationalize . . . the biggest banks in the world. Comrade Bush, how are you?"

The audience laughed and Chavez continued.

"Comrade Bush is heading toward socialism."

"Bruno" Strikes Again

Sacha Baron Cohen storms the runway AGAIN as he takes on Paris fashion week
He was arrested after storming the runway at Milan Fashion Week, but it seems Sacha Baron Cohen has yet to learn his lesson. In character as Austrian fashionista Bruno comedian Cohen tried unsuccessfully to hand a note to models parading down the runway at Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's show in Paris today.

He then jumped onto the catwalk and ran to the curtain, looking behind in a fruitless hunt for the designer.

As the audience tried to ignore him and concentrate on the models, Cohen was grabbed by an irate security guard, who had him removed from the show.Cohen, better known for his characters Ali G and Borat, caused chaos two days running at the Madrid shows.
