Canadian Thought Police Dismiss "Hate Speech" Charges Against Mark Steyn, Muslims Pissed

I would normally say that this was a great day for freedom of speech, but the fact that things went this far is very depressing. Especially in "progressive" Canada. Anyway:
While commentators have said Steyn's demographic claims are way off-base, the CHRC concluded the views in the article, "when considered as a whole and in context, are not of an extreme nature, as defined by the Supreme Court."

Therefore, the Commission said there is no reason to warrant the appointment of a tribunal to look into the matter. In its four page decision, the Commission noted Steyn's "writing is polemical, colourful and emphatic, and was obviously calculated to excite discussion and even offend certain readers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike."

Faisal Joseph, a lawyer for the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC), said he disagreed with the commission's finding. He said there was "compelling evidence of hate and expert testimony" to support their case, had it been allowed to move forward.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Death Penalty for Child Rape

The Supreme Court handed down a decision today that strikes down capital punishment for child rapists.
They did it despite warnings it would be ruled unconstitutional, with a deaf ear to objections by victim advocates that families would not report crimes if it meant a loved one could be executed or that offenders might kill victims who were the only witness to the crime

On Wednesday, a divided U.S. Supreme Court struck down the law, ruling the death penalty in child rape cases violates the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

"The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority in the 5-4 decision.

The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, a statewide nonprofit victim advocacy group representing 80 rape crisis centers, applauded the ruling.

"Most child sexual abuse victims are abused by a family member or close family friend," the group said in a statement. "The reality is that child victims and their families don't want to be responsible for sending a grandparent, cousin or long time family friend to death row."

Texas was one of at least five states that allowed the death penalty in some cases of child rape. The Texas law had allowed the death penalty for offenders twice convicted of raping children under 14.
I happen to agree with the decision, but not necessarily the reasoning given by the Court.

I have always been against the death penalty, in all but the most heinous crimes. For example, I would have thrown the switch on Tim McVeigh myself if they had offered me the chance, and Aldrich Ames should be executed immediately.

There are several points I would like to make.

1. Capital punishment is final.
There is no appeal after death. Whatever your religious beliefs, the fact is (unless you believe in reincarnation) that you only have one physical life on this earth.
2. Killing the criminal will not undo the crime.
Capital punishment is nothing more than cold revenge.
3. Capital punishment is not a deterrent.
That executions occur on a monthly basis is proof of this basic fact. Even in Iran, where homosexuals, adulterers, and apostates of Islam are hung or stoned to death... the threat of death is not enough to deter.

In the case of a child rapist, you would probably agree that these people are sick in the head. Somebody that is sick in the head and has an urge to do something like raping a child, is not going to think about the consequences when they are committing the act.
4. Executing a criminal costs more to the tax-payers than life imprisonment.
Yeah, it does. Much more. If your argument is "killem faster!" see the next point.
5. Since the year 2000, 44 death row inmates have been exonerated.
Exonerated, not given a lesser sentence. Since 1971, the number is 129.
All too often, ambitious prosecutors, lying/faulty witnesses, corrupt police, lazy and/or corrupt state forensic scientists, political judges, uneducated juries, and inept defense council land innocent people in prison.

Since the Innocence Project was started in 1992, 216 defendants previously convicted of serious crimes have been exonerated on DNA evidence, including death row inmates.
You can split hairs with me about individual cases all you want, but the fact is that as long as there is one innocent person on death row, and there are probably hundreds in the US, no true justice can exist.

China Destroys Mosque, Seizes Korans, Arrests and Tortures Muslims. Where's the Outrage?

Via The Jawa Report.

Selective Outrage - Muslims Riot Over Danish Cartoons But Not Over China Destroying A Mosque

Okay, I’ll take a stab at it - could it be because they know that their violent histrionics intimidate the more politically correct Western nations into compliance with their demands, no matter how petty or childish? And that China just flat doesn’t care what they think and that staging protests won’t make a damn bit of difference? Especially in China where it would not only make no difference whatsoever to the Chinese government how many protests you staged, it could be downright hazardous to your health.

"Uncovered Meat" Raped Because She Wasn't Wearing a Veil. In Belgium.

This is translated so the grammar may be a bit off.
"In the midst of a station. But how is this possible?," The father of Lola, 21 years. "Two men have accused him of not wearing the veil. My daughter is pretty. She is blonde with blue eyes."

Everything has gone very quickly then. "One of the assailants took out a knife. My daughter was plated against the wall of Bancontact. Knife to her throat, one of the boys raped her. The other watched."

It is still clear and outside the station is far from empty. " "People are past. My daughter is confident of seeing at least three people. None of them stopped to save her."

In other Islamic rape news, a Malaysian city has warned women that wearing high heels and lipstick is "unislamic" and may result in rape.
The municipal council in Kota Baru, run by a conservative Islamic party, is distributing pamphlets that recommend women refrain from wearing heavy makeup, including bright lipstick, and loud high-heel shoes to work, council spokesman Azman Mohamad Daham said.

"We just distribute pamphlets. Our minimum guideline is they must wear headscarves," he said. "The rest is up to them. If they want to follow the 100 percent Islamic way, it's up to them."

He said the suggestions aim to prevent rape and protect women's dignity and morals. The campaign started in 2006, but new pamphlets are circulated each year, he said.

Preemptive Liberalism Insanity in the UK

I'm just not surprised by these stories anymore.

First, Scottish grade school kids are prohibited from making Father's Day cards so as not to offend the children of single mothers and lesbians.
The politically correct policy was quietly adopted at schools "in the interests of sensitivity" over the growing number of lone-parent and same-sex households.

It only emerged after a large number of fathers failed to receive their traditional cards and handmade gifts.

Family rights campaigners last night condemned the policy as "absurd" and argued that it is marginalizing fathers, but local authorities said teachers need to react to "the changing pattern of family life".
Mother's Day cards are still allowed. The school board had nothing to say when asked about children living with single fathers or gay men.

And then there was this: Council bans 'brainstorming' and replaces the term with 'thought showers'
Brainstorming, first coined in the 1890s, was used by psychiatrists to refer to severe nervous attacks. And although since the 1940s it has meant a meeting to produce new ideas, councilors are concerned it may prove offensive to epileptics.

The National Society for Epilepsy said this was unlikely. It surveyed members three years ago to ask whether they found the phrase offensive.

Spokesman Amanda Cleaver said: 'The answer was a resounding No. It certainly wasn't deemed offensive at all. People thought it was a great word to describe the coming together and discussion of ideas.'

But diversity officers [e.g. thought police-ed] at Tunbridge Wells borough council are standing firm. Personnel chief Val Green said: 'We take equality and diversity issues very seriously. It is important to us not to offend people and we are sorry if through trying to avoid this, we have indeed caused offense to the very people we were trying not to offend.
These sort of stories demonstrate the absolute arrogance of the "compassionate" Liberal. "I know what's best for you, even though I never asked your opinion."

This is the same type of condescending preemptive Liberalism that is pissing off so many moderate Muslims in the UK, and at the same time, enabling and encouraging radicals. It's lose-lose! What the hell are these people thinking!?

A few points Leftists/Liberals do not seem to understand (or choose to ignore):

1. Some people have more talent than others. Some work harder than others.
I understand the socialist view that all should work for the common good and prosperity, but this philosophy breaks down in the face of Human nature: "Why should I work hard while others don't and enjoy the same benefits as I do, and they do nothing?"

There used to be a saying in the Soviet Union: "We will pretend to work as long as they pretend to pay us."

2. Being a minority is not a handicap in The West.
In a modern Western society, being a minority of any sort is an advantage. Preferred treatment in employment, education, taxes, welfare... Even not allowing gay people to marry is an advantage. Seriously.

You want to go on and on about how you don't have the right to a state-sanctioned union with somebody? Yeah, that's right... you are bitching about the government not being allowed to regulate your relationship. Think about it.

3. "Right-Wing Christians" are not going to overthrow the US or UK government.
V for Vendetta was a feature film, not a docudrama.

4. Apologizing for Islam while denigrating Judaism and Christianity will not stop Muslim violence in Europe-or anywhere.

Snoop Dogg Goes Country

"Johnny Cash, a real American gangsta."

I heard a rumor that Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube have a movie coming out next year (tentatively titled Lance & Rod) where Snoop(Lance) plays a hip day-care worker and Cube(Rod) is a naive suburban single father who's disabled son learns valuable life lessons from Snoop, while the two team up to raise the boy using street wisdom and fatherly love.

During their ups and downs, Rod realizes that he has feelings for Lance, and during a camping trip, a storm forces the pair to share a tent. After a few bottles of Zima, with the rain beating on their tent and the lantern turned down low, Rod tearfully admits his crush on Lance. Expecting to be rebuffed, Lance instead admits his mutual feelings for Rod, and the two express their feelings for each other physically.

The movie ends in a montage of hand-holding, helping the kid learn to ride a bike, sharing a milkshake, etc.

Low Points Meme

Fun thing posted on OG's blog.
In five syllables, no more, no less, describe the worst movie you can think of. Bonus points if you have to show off your Google skills because you can’t remember the name of it and all you can come up with is that it features Roz Russell and Sandra Dee. Turns out it was some tripe called Rosie! Exclamation point the producers’ idea, not mine.“Auntie Mame leavings.”

In seven syllables, no more, no less, describe your worst date. Bonus points if it was sordid. Subtract points if it sounds too much like an overweight fifteen year old Goth girl.“He pushed my head down. I puked.”

In five syllables, no more, no less, describe the worst job you ever had. Extra bonus points if it consists of Grim. Taxi dancer. Miss Janey, I’m talking to you. I had a miserable spell where I sat all alone in an empty office, handing out the keys to various hell holes for rent around New Orleans. One Lady came back and complained there was no window in the kitchen, I pretended to sympathize and said something like “Yes it would be nasty to have no light and air in there.” She replied “No, hone, you don unnerstan. Dere’s a hole for de winna but ain’t no winna in it.” “Slum lord in training.”

Put it all together and you have a haiku of life’s low points.

Teen Runs Red Light on a Bike and is Crushed by a Bus- Mother Sues the Bus Company

Can we have a "loser pays" tort system now? It's tragic that this woman lost her son, but now she and this ambulance chaser are trying to profit from his death shaking down the bus company with this silly law suit. Fucking scum.

What makes me even madder is that I know the company will settle for a few hundred thousand.

Mother of teen bicyclist killed in Beaverton sues TriMet
The teen, a student at Beaverton's Arts & Communication Magnet Academy, was riding home after school. The accident happened about 4:45 p.m. Feb. 11, not far from his house.

"Had Miller stopped, this crash would not have occurred," states a report prepared by the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.

The report, released in late April after weeks of investigation and interviews, found no reason to arrest the bus driver.

At the time, Stephanie Miller said she and Austin's father disagreed with the report's conclusions and had hired an attorney to review the case.

"We both think that the bus driver could and should have avoided hitting our son," she said in a prepared statement.

TriMet said that immediately after the crash it reminded its 1,200 bus drivers to be watchful of bicyclists. TriMet operating procedures call for buses to yield to bicyclists before pulling into or out of bus stops, turning or changing lanes.

The Murray-Farmington intersection has long been considered hazardous by some bicyclists because of congestion and mixed uses. Because there isn't room for a bike lane on the west side of Murray between Tualatin Valley Highway and Farmington, cyclists are directed to ride on the sidewalk next to Valley Catholic School.

Cyclists can pick up the bike lane after turning onto Farmington.

Some witnesses said Miller, who was wearing an iPod portable music player at the time of the crash, "swooped" into the street without stopping.

Oregon Grade School Bans the Pledge of Allegiance to Avoid Offending Muslims: Muslims Offended by the Ban

This article posted on Weasel Zippers was interesting, almost like something out of the UK.
(CBS) Most children growing up in the US memorize the Pledge of Allegiance. But, in one Oregon elementary school, the kids won't be allowed to recite it at an end of the year assembly.

The principal banned it that day so as not to offend Muslims.

One resident of Portland, Oregon was a little surprised when she received an e-mail from her stepson's school principal.

The e-mail said that the children would not be reciting the pledge because of its reference to God.

Instead, the students would memorize and sing the Preamble to the United States Constitution.

But it's not just non-Muslims who were offended.

At least one Muslim community leader says he feels the same way. Muhammad Najieb says that 'God' is central to the Muslim faith, and there are several references to him in every prayer.

Portland school officials say the principal was trying to be sensitive, but some Muslims say the ban caused hurt feelings, and may foster bitterness and division within the community.
The principal of this school banned the Pledge because he thought that for some reason Muslims would be offended by its recitation. Given the education and experience required to become a school principal, I would assume he knows that Islam is an Abrahamic religion that recognizes the same God as Christians and Jews. Assuming he is aware of this fact, the "under God" part of the Pledge can't be why he thought that this would offend Muslims. For review:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I'm guessing that this guy doesn't think that liberty and justice are offensive
to Muslims either.

So what part of the Pledge of Allegiance does he think might be offensive to Muslims?

I'm going to make another assumption: The principal is question is a hard-left Liberal. Yeah, I know that assuming a school principal from Oregon is a hard-left Liberal is going out on a limb, but I may be right in this case.

I can almost hear this: "I don't like Christians, and Muslims don't like Christians, because of the Crusades, and the support of Israel; I hate what America stands for, and so do Muslims. White people are the scourge of the Earth, and brown people are the victims of the white people's greed and lust for oil, so they also hate America too. I would never pledge allegiance to this modern fascist dictatorship under Bushitler, and neither would any Muslim. Gee... I bet Muslims are offended by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance..."

The biggest lie in the last 30 years is that "Liberals" are unracist, unbiased, unbigoted, and concerned with the welfare of all people.

America - Ventura Highway

“What the hell is wrong with these people?”

As usual, I was outside smoking with the boss today, and a couple of IT guys came out to our little paddock to relax in the post-storm air, and I overheard this tidbit:

“Talk about conservative to liberal. I mean, I thought Westport (the Haight-Ashbury of KC) was like the most liberal place in the world. I thought I was a liberal. When I flew into SanFran and got off the plane, just outside the terminal there were these bum hippies right out of the 60’s, except they were also like in their 60’s, with dirty tie-dye shirts and long white beards and hair asking for hand-outs, and one even said he needed $20 for some weed.”

“Well, my sister picks me up in her beat-up Insight, and we start the drive up to Berkeley.”

“Man you got to go out there and see the bay and the city, it’s really amazing. She had to be back so she could to go event, but we took a detour through the city so I could see some of the landmarks from the movies and video games. Seriously, it’s worth the trip just to see that.”

“Okay, so we get up to Berkeley about dusk and her apartment is right off campus, but there’s like these knots of protesters all over the place

“My sister lives with this guy in a tiny one-bedroom apartment, and I slept on their futon while I was there. He seemed pretty cool, and she had been with him for a couple of years, but this was the first time I had met him.”

“It was pretty cool, we smoked, and did some shots, and listened to music. He was a real laid back guy. They left and said they would be back later, and I pretty much just passed out, I was so tired after working all day and the flight.”

“The next day, she wakes me up at like 2pm, and we head out to the campus for a tour. I see even more protesters now. I’m not kidding, there are these guys wearing designer ‘Che’ shirts and pants from Abercrombie and $100 sandals. These guys are yelling at the top of their lungs about the Iraq war and down with America and all that stuff. We were near one of the parking lots, and no-kidding, some kids got of a Mercedes wearing black watch-caps and anarchist “A” t-shirts, and one was wearing a red beret that had the Soviet hammer and sickle on it. Seriously.”

“I could tell by their pants and shoes that most of these people at least had access to money, because they all had on brand-name stuff, no matter how scruffy they tried to make themselves look. All of these protesters were trust-fund babies, driving $60,000 cars and wearing $100 shoes, while protesting against capitalism and America.”

“What the hell is wrong with these people? Don’t they know that in a socialist society, their wealth and possessions would be taken away?”

Catholic Bishop Compares Global Warming™ "Deniers" to Child Molesters

Just when I think that the insanity in Britain can't get any worse, I am proven wrong. And this happens almost every day.

BBC: Climate deniers 'are like Fritzl'
The Bishop of Stafford, Gordon Mursell, wrote in a parish letter that not confronting global warming meant people were "as guilty as" Josef Fritzl.

It meant future generations would be left in a futureless world, he said.

Mr Mursell added he was not accusing people of being child abusers but shocking analogies were needed.

"I am simply trying to use an analogy to get people to wake up to the consequences of what we are failing to do, because if we don't there won't be a future for our children either."

He said it was hard to imagine a more "monstrous crime" than Fritzl's and that was why he chose to use it as an analogy.

He added: "Could you not argue that if there is no future for our children and grandchildren, we will have been guilty of committing the most appalling crimes as well?"
